The project department received 11 banners after 6 months of construction
On the wall of the meeting room at the Jiangxi Construction Engineering Co., Ltd. Qingyunpu District Urban Water Environment Governance Project Department, Phase II, there are 11 banners, most of which are from village committees and community property management offices.
Introducing the origins of these banners, Zhang Yunnian, the project's chief engineer, recounted them vividly. “These banners represent the public's recognition of our work over the past 6 months, and they are also the motivation for our progress, giving us more confidence to complete the project with high quality and quantity.
A tough battle: Completing drainage renovations for over 100 units in 7 months
The Qingyunpu Water Environment Governance Project involves the transformation of over 100 drainage units, covering 5 streets including Xujiafang, Jingshan, Sanjiadang, Hongdu, and Daishan, as well as Qingyunpu Town and Meihu Scenic Area. The project's construction sites are widely dispersed.
It is understood that Nanchang City has decided to use 3 years to systematically sort out the urban municipal rainwater and sewage pipelines covering 302 square kilometers. This is the largest, widest, and most thorough sewage treatment project in Nanchang's history, representing the most complex civil engineering project in Nanchang's history.
This year marks the completion of this project. According to the plan, the project needs to be completed by October, including the Qingyunpu Water Environment Governance Project, which started in March 2024. This means the project department needs to complete the transformation of over 100 units in 7 months.
“Among the over 100 units, in addition to enterprises and institutions, many are old communities or even villages, with complex structures and terrain. In some places, it's difficult even for people to enter, let alone equipment.” The project manager, Zeng Xuewen, introduced that, considering the actual situation of the project, in order to improve efficiency, after consultation with relevant units, the project department undertook some work that was not originally theirs.
△ A construction plan table for over 100 units is posted on the wall of the project department's meeting room.
For example, in the early stages of the project, due to the complexities, the preliminary investigation was difficult to carry out, and the subsequent design work could only wait. The project department had more professional personnel and equipment, so the project department employees carried out the preliminary investigation, designing sketches while conducting the investigation and construction, maximizing time efficiency.
Behind the Banners: The Efforts of the Construction Team and Public Satisfaction
Among all the units, those in villages and old communities were the most complex.
Some units had residents raising chickens, ducks, or even pigs, resulting in a dirty and chaotic environment; some units still relied on firewood for cooking due to the lack of natural gas; some units still used dry toilets, with serious aging and blockage of sewage pipes; some units were so old that the blueprints could no longer be found...
“Many sewage pipes in the units could not be located, and our employees had to find them one by one. Blocked pipes were also cleared one by one by our employees. The blocked dry toilets in the residential buildings, due to their special structure, required us to find many solutions. In the end, our employees climbed up a 4-meter-high ladder to clean them manually.” The project manager, Zeng Xuewen, said that before construction in each unit, the project department would hold meetings with property management, street offices, village committees, resident representatives, and relevant departments to understand the specific situation and problems of each unit, fully listening to their opinions and needs, and then proceeding with the construction.
“Some old communities and villages have been plagued by sewage and foul odors for a long time. After our dredging and cleaning efforts, and by finding all possible solutions to achieve cleanliness, we effectively helped residents improve their living environment, and consequently reduced the complaints and reports received by the property management, community, and street offices. To express their gratitude, the residents presented us with banners.” In the project department's meeting room, Zeng Xuewen recounted the efforts and hardships of the project department's employees behind each banner.
Since the start of construction in March 2024, the project department has received 11 banners from residents and property management offices in the construction units over nearly 6 months.
Voices from the Frontline: More Difficulties, More Confidence
Besides the banners, the most eye-catching thing in the project department's meeting room is the construction schedule that covers almost an entire wall, showing the planned start time, actual start time, actual completion time, acceptance completion time, and progress status of over 100 units.
△ Construction workers are working in an alleyway of an old community.
Every morning at 6:30 am, the project department holds a morning meeting in this meeting room, and also work meetings on Mondays and Fridays, often lasting until 11 or 12 pm at night, discussing and analyzing various problems encountered during the day's construction.
Due to the narrow roads and numerous alleys in the village, the renovation requires ground excavation, inevitably affecting the daily travel of some villagers, leading to some misunderstandings from the residents. There was also no open space to store construction materials, so initial construction was very difficult. After repeated explanations and reassurance, the villagers finally expressed their understanding and support. “Some residents even gave up the space in front of their houses and yards for us to store construction materials; now, the relationship between the residents and our construction team is very harmonious.” Wan Jiang, the head of the Maoxia Village renovation unit, stated.
As the project's chief engineer, Zhang Yunnian is accustomed to such on-site construction problems. “From the start of the project until now, I haven't had a single day off.” Zhang Yunnian said with a smile.
“We know there will definitely be many more difficulties ahead, but we are confident.” Looking at the banners on the wall, Zeng Xuewen felt that everything was worthwhile. This is the pride of all the employees of the project department, and the best comfort for them.
